They test the emissions buy plugging their machine into the OBD-II port by the drivers knee in your rig. The machine pulls it's information from the readouts on your PCM through the OBD-II port. In short, unless your check engine light is on or broken you should pass emissions no problem.

I live just outside Chicago in Crook County so they HAVE to get their cut on EVERYTHING that exists in their jurisdiction. I don't know if it's mandatory all over the place, but in the areas surrounding the state of Chicago it's mandatory. You can imagine my wallet pains having to buy gas for my 5.9 D in Crook County. Yikes I'm getting depressed thinking about it. Oh well! You gotta pay to play!

I have a 52mm on mine. MPG dropped a little. I get about 10-14. Before, i was holding 11-14. Maybe the drop was due to having more air coming in so the pcm have to adjust the fuel mixture? It could be my custom ram air intake as well. not sure. But the slight drop was worth having a big response on the throttle.
Saving up for the F1 airgap intake to see if I can get some serious MPG increases that most owners are reporting if they keep a light foot.
