Default Crankcase breather

02 SLT 5.9L AWD

Here are a few things I noticed about my D today. Is there a correlation?
  • Crankcase breather tube (coming from the passenger side valve cover to the air hat) has grease/oil residue around the rubber fitting into the valve cover.
  • Oil on the valve cover/vc gasket directly below the crankcase breather tube.
  • Oily residue when looking down into the TB.
  • Losing a little less than a quart of oil between oil changes ... every 5k or so (Mobile-1 FS 10W30).
I have been planning to do the Hughes Plenum Kit this spring. Here are my questions...

1) Is there any correlation between a blown plenum gasket and leakage around the crankcase breather tube? Or is it just a worn rubber fitting?

2) Is there anything special about the crankcase breather, or is it simply a plastic elbow and hose leading to the air hat? (stealership parts, I'm sure)

Thanks in advance for the info...

Stock valve covers ? If so I would say it's just a warn fitting. As for the crankcase breather. I just plugged the whole on my K&N intake and put a breather on the valve cover. Been fine.

1. No, the rubber grommet gets hard and doesn't seal properly. Go to a dealer and get a new one as well as a new breather 90 because they just go together.

2. It is a simple plastic elbow is all, but I would just replace it again as indicated for a few bucks at the dealer.

Yes these are dealer parts!
