2000 Durango overheating issues
I have a 2000 durango that has about 150,000 miles on it. It has been running great until a few months ago. First it overheats when I stop at lights, go through a drive-thru or get stuck in traffic. My brakes just got replaced at Just Brakes but it squeaks when braking. My 4-wheel gear shift is loose and slides up and down and it sounds like wind coming through when I drive. The most important is the overheating. Also, what are the consequences for not fixing the pinion seal? Meineke told me that it is leaking and it could cause potential damage. I just don't know which mechanic I can trust.
Welcome to the site. You sure got a lot of issues for a first post...LOL
Overheating - Sry, i gotta start with the simple first. Have you check the coolant level? Replaced the stat? Made sure both upper and lower rad hoses are hot to show coolant is flowing? Replaced the rad cap?
Pinion seal - if it leaks you are losing oil. Loss of oil means you will eventually lose too much and you will burn the rear gears up due to loss of lubrication and cooling properties.
Brakes - if they just got replaced and they squeal then take them back and complain. Could just be cheap semi-metallic pads. Depending on how bad it is, you might have to either live with it or buy better pads/shoes.
Gear shift i cant help with. Best thing I can suggest is to get out there and take it a part and see why it is loose. You might just need to tighten something.
