Default to diff 5.9 engines, same year?

A friend just bought a 99. Nice looking ride. When we popped the hood, two things i noticed right off. Her radiator setup is completely different than mine and her radiator cap is on her upper radiator hose. I'd like to say its due to a cross over year but i owned a 2000 and it had the same setup as my 99, except the upper radiator hose had the cap on it. Did they produce two versions of a 5.9 in 1999?

no, hers has probably had work done on the cooling system and it was somehow changed, either that or she doesnt have a 5.9, pictures of what you are asking about would be helpful

Ours looks like pic 1 and has aux fan. Our mfg date is 7/99. Dodge must have changed to 2000 after 6/99. I dunno.

11/99 is counted as a 2000 model year ....which is the right rad cap/hose setup she has on her`s.

hers is part of the 'new' design for the first gen trucks, the auxillary fan and different fan shroud were used on the second half of the 1st generation trucks. 2000 was a transition model year, do it could have either set up, or any combination of parts, same engine, just different fan shroud

Thanks guys! I figured that might be it, but wanted to ask. Why can't automakers just leave crap alone? Gotta change this and change that.
