Default New Tires now have a wobbeling problem.....

On my 98 durango i just put my 3in body lift on with 33x12.50x15 Mickey Thompson Baja Claws on yesterday but i havent gotten to do my alignment yet. I will be doing that soon.

But i have a wobbeling problem when it gets up to about 60-65mph. Can this be from not having the alignment done yet, the tires not being balanced right, or something else??

Help me out please!!! Thanks

it could be any of the the three things that you listed, but the list of things i think of (yes some overlap)

bad tire(slipped belt, ect)
out of alignment
tires out of balance
bad wheel bearing
loose brake calipers

start with the obviously needed stuff (alignment) and then go from there

The alignment can cause tire wear and pull as well as all kinds of driving problem but vibration is not very likely.

You most likely have a balance problem. Tires as large and heavy as the baja claws can be very difficult to get balanced correctly and to keep balanced. The heavy the tire the harder to balance out the imperfections. It can still be done though and I have done it many times when I worked at a tire shop several years ago.

You went from 10's at a maximum to 12.5's, if anything is worn or out you are really going to feel it more. The other thing is the balance could be out or a bad tire.

I agree its most likely a balance problem. Chances are with bad alignment it would pull and wear one of the tires more so than wobble.

I also agree that it's quite likely a balance issue.

Also get the wheel bearings checked. If they're getting a little worn, then as Hydra said, the larger, heavier tires, especially if they're a bit out of balance, will make a wheel bearing problem show up that might not have been noticeable before.

Sounds like one of those things where you might have to just go step by step. Start with the most likely problem, then just keep going down the list until you get it the way you want it.

It's just sort of the type of can of worms you sometimes end up opening when you do large mods to an older vehicle....

Did you keep the factory rims or go with something different? I know of 3 different people who changed their rims and used the wrong style lugnuts and had a wheel fall off. Even if you kept the factory alloy wheels it's good to check the lugnuts after a few days after removing an alloy wheel to make sure they are still tight.
