Question Tranny flush?!

So i was thinking about doing a tranny flush and i was just told by two buddies that since my durango has now 80,000 miles on it and its 9 years old that my tranny is used to that old tranny fluid.

They both said that because it used to that old gunked up fluid if i change it with new fluid it will be bad for my durango? This is really messed up.

has anyone ever heard of this happening?

I don't wanna change the tranny fluid just to have my tranny break down on me because of new fluid.

Do NOT flush the system. Do a full replacement or purge but flushing the system can be catastrophic. It can cause the old gunked up fluid to block the lines or cause blockages somewhere else.

Flushing the system IMO is one of the worse things you can do to a transmission. It's just not good to do...

So widow you're saying just change the fluid in the pan and the filters that are there? Not to get the tranny flushed?

Well no, the fluid in the pan is only part of it. Take off the line from the transmission oil cooler after the pan fluid is replaced and turn the engine on. It's easier with a friend and as the transmission fluid comes out, put some more in.

Some may chime in on their opinions but I've just heard a flush is terrible.

your friends are retarded, if i were you i would find new friends, or at the very least stop asking them for advice

change the fluid, change the filters, refill w/ atf +4 a fluid FLUSH is bad and will cause trouble, if you would like to PURGE the fluid that is fine, there is a write up on doing that here somewhere.

FLUSHING IS EVIL!!! DONT DO IT DUDE!!! Remove/replace filter and fluid with ATF+4
RTV For sealant even though filter kit may come with pan gasket....toss it....USE RTV

There arent many times when I recommend Dealers but this is one of them. You can get both filters and sealant....YES 545RFE I said BOTH as in TWO filters... One traditional ATF filter make sure it comes with the o ring that fits at the end of the tube.

The other is a spin on oil filter type....

You can get the ATF+4 at dealer but Valvoline ATF+4 is my recommendation depending on price. I personally recommend getting a couple of quarts above what you will need. You can always return if unopened but would hate to have you run out in the middle of the project.

NOTE: Pay attention to the bottles and try to get all bottles from the same lot number and batch number..NOT mandatory but highly recommended...

The MOPAR RTV sealant will work for at least a couple of filter changes and can be used for other stuff...

If you are in the MSP Area I recommend Fury Motors in St. Paul They did me a couple of favors when I was in the area and although I hate dealers with a passion they are one of the exceptions and I don't mind sending them business. Right of I494 eastbound towards Wisconsin I believe Concord St. visible from the highway.

Yeah i didn't wanna do a full flush just change whats in the pan and change the filters. When replacing the fluid do i pour it right into the dropped pan or pour it from inside the engine bay?

I'm sure my car nub questions are giving everyone a good laugh.

Thanks for that link sharp, i'll definitely check it out. its usually hydra who posts links to info lol

"hey hydra i got a question." -hydra: "yeah, there's a link for that." lol

I put a couple quarts in the pan and bolt it down and put the rest in the dipstick tube. I'm sure there's an easier way than this but it's just how I've always done it since the 80's.
