if its the hose that kind of angles towards the drivers side, bout 3 inches or so long steel then turns to rubber hose then it goes to the heater core. It goes back to the firewall. Look for 2 hoses on the firewall one above the other.
IIRC that short section is to the intake manifold. When I changed my water pump I replaced it under principal. It cost me like $5 and is a PITA to get to which made it well worth it to replace during the water pump replacement.
*EDIT*
I have my manual open and looked. It is called a water pump bypass hose.

Correct!
Sounds like the Bypass hose if it is front and center on top of the water pump and plugs into the intake manifold. It is about 3 inches in length.
On the left side is about a 5 inch metal line that changes over to a 5/8" rubber line and that plugs into the heater core (pressure side). This is the heater hose.
Make sure if you are changing the Water Pump you replace the lower radiator hose and the bypass hoses at a least!

thanx and i know what u mean by PITA i just finished replacing my water pump and i got the bypass hose and it was a PITA wow for 3 inches it took me awhile lol but thanx for the finding out the name for me
I also replaced mine too I've seen a lot of those blow for some reason and they are not fun to get to to replace later on. I laugh when I see all you guys complain about that bypass hose on the 5.9L, try one on a ford 5.0 engine then tell me the 5.9L is a PITA haha.
