Default 01 Durango runs hot when towing or hill climbing

For the past 3 years my dingo gets hot when towing or climbing hills. I got the radiator checked replaced water pump and still continues to run hot. Has any else had this problem? What did u do to fix it? Any suggestions?
Thanks, Sid

By gets hot, do you mean runs way past the margin mark, or is just a bit hotter than normal? Does your electric fan work and does it operate properly?

It normally runs a little past half and when towing pushes it almost to red. I had to pullover once or twice cause the light comes on n forget bout running the ac. My fan works I wonder if could be the tranny cooler?

check the clutch fan, make sure the clutch is good, spin it by hand w/ the engine off and see how far the fan spins before stopping, more than 1/2 a turn and the clutch is shot

otherwise get an ir non contact thermometer and check for hot spots in the radiator

It Could be a bad Stat.
I just changed out my Stat and replaced the riser and cap. A 180 went in to replace the 195. Running cool is not an issue in Southern NM. I was running well while towing on the flat, but any hill pushed my temp gauge way up. I figured the stat was replaced with a higher temp one since my D just got relocated from Colorado, but it was a 195 and did not open when I tested it. Things are running well with the new stat without towing, and I'm hoping that while towing will be the same story.

I'm thinking Clutch fan or your electric fan could be gone.

Lastly replace your T-stat with a dealer one on the 4.7L.
