03 Durango towing
I have an 03 Durango want to tow a 3000lb Accord from Florida to Colorado on a two axle Uhaul car carrier.
4.7L V8 5 speed automatic
Factory installed Trailer Tow Group Package with Class IV receiver.
Don't know the the axle ratio.
VIN 1D4-HR58N43F-572814
Good idea or not?
Thanks

you should be fine, i believe the tow rating for your truck is around 6k lbs, so unless you are towing it on a 3000lb trailer you will be well under that limit.
i would just make sure brakes are in good working order, take it slow, lock out OD and personally i would do a tune up with all fresh fluids just as a precautionary move.

I say go for it. I towed a GMC Sierra 2500HD on a uhaul car trailer before from florida to ohio without any problems. My D is a 98 5.2L and had 182k miles on it at the time. Pulled it like there wasn't even anything behind me on the highway, I kept looking back there and was like "that white truck is still tailgating me...oh wait", haha.
Like sharps said though, just double check your brakes beforehand for peace of mind, you have 4 wheel discs so that's even better than me. And whatever you do, turn O/D off the whole time, you'll be sucking up a lot of gas but hey what's a few fillups compared to a tranny rebuild. Keep an eye on engine temp and trans temp for sure, especially when you get into the hills, the 4.7s sometimes like to do some funny things like overheat when towing. Other than the obvious, just always keep the speed under 65mph, 60 is a good cruising speed I used.
Your D was built for this kind of stuff, the 4.7L has plenty power to pull you up those mountains in CO. without any problems.
