i really hope you dont mean a jet chip, bc those things do exactly NOTHING for the truck

 

Yep that's what it is shrp. It called the Jet PCM aka Jet Chip and piggybacks the PCM harness and causes more problems than it's worth.

Yes it does mess with shift points and once the PCM learns what is going on it overcompensates to ditch this thing that's on it telling it what to do and ends up screwing itself up.

Its a computer and when it fails it fails like a computer. Think of it you put a harness that is supposed to speed up your hard drive that you plug in between the hard drive and your SATA/IDE cable. It's the same principal and ends up with the same thing.

Your PCM is way smarter than a little chip.

 

So, if what your saying is correct, then I spent better than 200 bucks for nothing? Will it cause harm to the ECM? Could that have caused my tranny to mess up to begin with? If so I sure as hell will take it off! What kind of chip or programmer do you suggest for a poor man like the rest of us. I have always heard good things about JET modules.

 

Yes, that is the unfortunate and probable truth of the matter with buying a JET Chip. You may have heard good things on the JET module on something other than a Dodge because every instance I've encountered with it on a Dodge PCM, ended up in the chip being sold on eBay or thrown in the trash.

Basically like I said the computer learns it's there and then works around the chip, thus making your PCM go crazy because it's decreasing performance to kill what the chip is telling it to do.

A programmer is really the cheapest way to get a real tune because it re-programs the computer by actually adjusting the information on the PCM itself. SuperChips is what I have and I've had great luck with it, and the great thing is if you want to save money there's a tune for that. The other alternative is sending your PCM in and getting a performance tune from a place like a dealership or B&G.

I'm not sure if it's possible this is the exact reason what made your transmission crap out. Unfortunately Dodge is not known for making the strongest transmissions in the world and there are A LOT of factors that can come into play when placing the blame on a failed transmission.

 

White Widow, It seems you are correct. I did take the module off and my D seems to run and drive a little better. The check engine light also turned off. I just hate I spent the money on that damn thing LOL. I guess I will do like you said and put it on ebay and buy a Superchip programmer. LOL Thanks.

 

Yep I'm glad to hear that helped things out and sorry to see people waste money on it. Trust me I did the same thing in my early years of owning the Durango, along with buying a throttle body spacer and both of them ended up on eBay.

I've been super happy with my SuperChips programmer so that's the one I'm able to recommend. Hypertech I've also heard good things about but I'm just able to speak from experience with the SuperChips. Best purchase I've bought hands down for the Durango!
