Default Low idle Maybe?

Hi folks, brand new here to the forum, great site! I have an 02 Durango SXT 2wd with the 4.7....98000 miles now...only mods are a K&N Drop-in filter and a original 40 series Flowmaster Si/So to a 3-inch chrome tip. Truck still runs strong..noticed lately it seems the idle tends to drop down a bit at red-lights to like 500 maybe a little more..just seems kinda low...it never stalls..if I kick on the A/C or just the fan, then of coarse the electric-fan kicks on and the idle jumps back up to 650 or so...oh I also took off the mechanical fan a couple of years ago with no problems since...anyhow what do you guys think about the idle?

This past weekend I went ahead and replaced the TPS just for the heck of it, and I did reset the PCM also...but today it still wants to idle back down again to like 500...usually after it's warmed up is when it does it. I also did clean my IAC...but maybe I simply need to replace that also?

That's what I was thinking as well... my '03 4.7 sits at 500 or maybe just slightly higher. How old is your battery? A weak battery will cause a low end stumble / sputter if that's happening at all.

Like stated above that sounds about right. I believe mine when ts warmed up idles around 570 or 600 but I have the 5.9, regardless that isn't low as long ad it's idling even no problems. If it was low you'd know it because it would be going crazy on you.

Typically a good rule of thumb if the idle is too low, the alternator wont be able to keep up and it all most likely be rough or stumble.
