Blower and 4x4 problems with 2000 4.7L...
Hey all. New to the forum and completed evap, heater core, and blower fan install last week. I have run into a couple of problems. Put it all back together and when I turn the heater on, nothing. The blower fan doesn't even come on. That's my first problem. Second problem is my 4 wheel shifter now shifts freely instead of only when tranny is in neutral as it used to do. And finally, disgusted I turned the key off only to watch the gauges do some funny stuff like I had turned the key when I hadn't. PLEASE HELP! The D is a 2000 4.7L SLT.

Some of the issues sound like a vacum tube is kinked or not connected correctly. Does your cruise control work normally?
Other issues sound like a short in the electrical? When you were putting it back together did you have any, "Now where did this go again" moments and perhaps not hook something up properly? Did you take before, during, after pictures to compare?

sounds to me like you missed some wires or put some wires back together wrong, unfortunately you are going to have to open the dash back up and see whats going on.
and the loose 4x4 shifter is probably the linkage underneath either loose or off, however you SHOULD be able to shift into 4wd while the truck is moving and in gear so as long as the 4x4 still works id say its probably fine.

If I remember correctly, if you pull the glove box out the main wires to your blower are right there and you can test for power, at least on that year. You could also check for power at the switch. With the flickering, it sounds like a ground is loose or not tight. Try looking at the driver’s side main harnesses and ensure they are tight and bolted down and that might cure your blower issue.
On the 2000 you should have a manual 4X4 shifter on the floor. Get under your truck and look at the linkage going from it to the Transfer Case. Most likely there is a rubber bushing (grommet) that has/is falling out or is cracked and needs replaced. The problem is you can't just buy a replacement. You have to go to a junk yard or fabricate a new one with an oversized one from a parts store. Polyurethane ones are better and take up any slack.

The 2000 is a cross over year so I am unsure if you have electric actuators or if they are vacuum controlled. Most likely they have electric. The actuators I am referring to are the heater controls that distinguish which direction the air blows and cold and hot on the heat - A/C controls on the dash.
