Default Turn key and nothing

My 99 durango is stuck at a grocery store, need help on this one quick if you can!
Parked the durango, went in the store for a few minutes, upon returning and turning the key, nothing, nada, not a sound occurs, no pumps no clicks no nothing, just the dash lights appear.
Came back with the basics, all upper connections are good, checked distribution box, nothing appears blown, hooked up some jumpers and tested for power, oh yeah, scared a lady getting into her lexus near me. Really don't want to pay for another tow.

did you play with the shifter on the steering column? It may think it is in gear so it will no turnover?

Anyone think this could be a neutral safety switch issue?

Sure sounds like it. It also could be a ignition switch.

You should check the large fuse in the PDC right where the main power comes in.

I had a similar problem just a couple weeks ago... Drove to the bank, went inside to use the ATM, came back out... NOTHING!

I almost crapped my pants. Then I settled down, popped the hood, and realized a battery terminal had come loose. (my own fault for not tightening it properly when I installed my stereo)

Default Bought an ignition switch

Thanks fellas, I tried to start it in neutral and jiggled the shifter still nothing.
Grabbed an ignition switch on ebay, massive difference in price compared to Napa
or Auto Zone. Getting here Wednesday, I'm hoping it's that simple!
Will keep this forum updated for future reference's.
Thanks again,

Remember you can still trouble shoot while your waiting with a multi-meter.
