2003 Durango 5.9L V8 R/T - Idle Problem
I am new to the Dodge forum and am not a car guy, so please forgive me if I sound uneducated when describing my problem.
I have a 2003 DodgeDurango with 118,000 miles on it and have been having problems with a really rough idle when its started from a cold start. When I start the car first thing in the morning, or after it has sat for more then an hour, the car will start normally, rev to about 1000 - 1100 RPM, then slowly migrate down to 600 RPM in a few minutes. After those first 3 - 5 minutes of running normally the truck starts to struggle and the rpm's will start to dip to between 300 - 500 rpm and it seems as though the truck is going to die. The muffler will start puffing and a distint oil/gas smell will come from the muffler. If I leave it alone for another 2 - 3 minutes the truck will suddenly and by itself rev the engine to 1100 RPM and then idle normally at 600 RPM after that. After that rev to 1100 RPM I can drive the truck withouth problems, however, if I try to drive while the engine is idling roughly or try to just start the truck and go I can press the gas peddle down and nothing will happen for a second and then a bang will happen.
