Doesn't sound good. I would diffidently check the tranny fluid for a good clear red color and smell the dip stick. if smells burnt and the fluid is dark, it's fried.

I thought Capt Hook was riding with you for a second.... I had a tough time hearing what you were describing. Nontheless, if you are trying to deterimine if the truck is worth $1000, take a look at this website https://www.junkmycar.com/initialoffers.asp. They will give you a quote for how much your car is worth a scrap, basically. With my zip code, they would pay about $600 to take it away... as junk. If it is running and you don't mind puttin a little cash into it, $1000 sounds fair. However, keep in mind that a new tranny can cost you up to $1800'ish or around $350 from a junk yard.

These trucks are notorius for weak front ends too. Take a look at the ball joints and cv boots. You could rack up quite a bit in repairs if you don't check it out closely.
