1999 Durango Engine Stalls
My friend has a 1999 Durango and it just kills while he's driving around. If he waits several minutes, it will start again. But he was almost rear-ended the other day when it quit at a stoplight on a highway.
The mechanics can't find the problem. Has anyone heard of this before and know what the problem might be?
Thanks!

I am the friend. The Dodge dealer had my Durango for 4 days and finally determined it was the PCM. Similar to the other horror stories this was very frustrating and the dealers are not good at identifying the PCM. If it doesn't trip an error while their testing it they say there is nothing wrong with it. They have to actually diagnose the vehicle when it stalls and can't research or fix just based on what is going wrong. I have lost my faith in mechanics being able to self-diagnose and fix a vehicle without having to rely on a computer to tell them what to do. I own a 78 VW Westy Bus and a Harley and am thinking of only buying nice simple air-cooled engines going forward. Sometimes technology sucks!!!
similar problem today on my 99 D. couldn't get out of the driveway without it stalling. the auto shutoff relay was not working properly, causing the fuel pump to stop after initial startup . 20 minutes of troubleshooting with a voltmeter and a 10 dollar relay.
