Default Overheating

I have a 2001 4.7L V8 Durango. Had my serpentine belt changed as well as water pump, upper and lower hoses, and thermostat. Temp gauge was past half-way mark on short drive home. The fan was on, but gauge didn't seem to drop much. Does the new thermostat need time to adjust, or could there be another problem?

did you burp the system properly?

also is your clutch fan working properly? give it a spin by hand, if it goes more than 1/2 a turn the clutch is shot.

First thing i learned was never trust a shops word that if something works okay or not.... Sure there are some "Honest" Mechanics out there but, there far and few between.. I would test the clutch fan yourself only takes a few seconds then, if its not "ok" id take it back and call then on it.

There is not that much to a cooling system, and it seems like you have replaced most of it, I dont know about the 4.7 but on the 5.9 there is a small pipe from the system to the expansion tank, and if it is gunged up it can cause overheating problems, and it is often overlooked, if you have that take it off and blast some air through it, I did a complete cooling system service with a new rad, T stat etc, but it still over heated till I cleared that little insignificant piece of rubber pipe. Maybe this is a useless post cos you have the 4.7, but maybe not, good luck.
Oh, and yes to what they said.
