Default Need New Lift Supports for the Rear Hatch

The rear hatch lift supports on my D are worn out and I want to replace them. I was wondering if anyone has any brand recommendations for aftermarket supports from Amazon, Advance Auto, Napa etc. Looking for experience specifically with the Strongarm 4290.

It's about $87 shipped for me from dodgeparts.com for OEM supports. If there are no equal or better third party options I will buy those.

Thanks for any help!

Thanks for the reply magic. How do they work? I think strongarm (AVM) makes the OEM lifts.

$43.90 shipped here for anyone who is interested. Cheapest price I could find.

Mine work as good as they did when the "D" was new. The lift gate is very HEAVY so the supports have a job to do! Good luck with yours.

Thumbs up 2013/14 update

Just to update this thread as per current prices and availability; I ordered 2 Strongarm 4290 struts today from http://www.ebay.com/itm/330687589996 as recommended by 98DurangoSLT in the 5th post for my 2001 4.7L DurangoSLT(Canada). Current price $18.60 each w free shipping (to my US PO Box/shipper). RockAuto was $28.62 each plus about $12 shipping for 2 struts. Over $30 savings for 2. Thanks 98DurangoSLT. I'll post if there's a problem, otherwise assume that I am satisfied as per others that have posted their success with Strongarm struts.

I ordered some on Ebay a few months ago and they where around $28 for the set with free shipping... i guess you just have to shop around

I think I paid about that when I replaced mine a couple years ago. Just make sure you have a helper to hold the hatch for you.
