Having problems with my a/c. Have a 2001 dodge durango 4.7L V8 with 72,000 miles. My a/c will start if I turn it on before I start driving. If already driving and try to turn it on, I get a bursts of a whirring sound. Had the system recharged already and it started doing this after that. described the situation to a guy at RS Strauss and says it sounds like the compressor is going. Gave me a price of 650 to replace compressor and recharge the system parts and labor. Does this sound like it is compressor?

 

Sounds like they screwed up the compressor then? Go back and talk to the shop.

 

+1 hydra sounds to me like they screwed something up, tho idk why it would matter if you were driving when you turned the a/c on or not.
