I hope the one from the dealer is not the same junk one that is from the factory. All the aftermarket units are a much better design than the factory unit.

the dealer (and factory now) use a much better (beefier looking) resistor than the one that came in the truck at manufacture, its cheap at the dealer so just go to them and get it

Take a close look at the harness. I have the same setup as you. When mine went out, it fried one of the wires and basically welded the leads to the resistor. Also, it looks like a quick, simple job, but the screws are in tight locations. I almost felt like a contortionist.

+1 on that, although AutoZone sold me my last one with a lifetime warranty for $12. I've already replaced it once after 18 months of use, so it's been $6 times each so far!

FWIW, I think part of the problem with the connector welding on might be because the resistor mounts upside down and condensation forms in the base of it, leaking onto the contacts over time. I put some dielectric grease on the connector when I replaced mine and it unplugged much easier during replacement. Not that $35 is a lot for a connector, it's just a pain in the *** (literally!) to change it out.
