It could, but usually whining noises are associated with the belt and pulleys. Just curious have you checked your alternator? I'm just thinking that it may not be putting out enough to keep up with the electrical demands at that rpm, especially at wot when the injectors are firing the hardest and such.

It would most likely be an ignition problem up high if voltage output was a problem but you could definately hear some popping if the coil can't get enough power to provide proper spark.

That does sound like what he is describing though. I was thinking that under that heavy of a load that the belt was slipping or something that the alternator couldn't keep up. I'm thinking bad tensioner or bad belt.

I can go with that Biff,


Stick a multi-meter on the battery posts and measure the voltage at different RPM's and see if you drop close or below 12 volts.
