I'm new and really need HELP!!!
This is a 2000 Dodge Durango with 4.7 engine. Well taken care of and just started overheating. The engine was replaced about 20K ago.
Ok this is what I've done.
1. New radiator cap
2. New thermostat
3. New water pump
4. Used radiator flush

Have you checked to see if the fan is spining. Turn it by hand with the key out of the ignition to make sure it is not binding. Then check to see if you have power going to it when the engine heats up.
when is it overheating? during normal driving? in traffic? at idle?, does it cool down again if you get moving? does it overheat at highway speeds or around town driving? need some more information before we can give you much more than a list of parts to throw at it.

The heads on the 4.7L are aluminum and the engine is iron. They expand under pressure/heat different measurements because of different metal compounds and thus the head gasket rips. Now on the 5.9L and 5.2L both the head gaskets are iron based and therefore crack. You got em backwards is all.
