A/C Replacement Clutch
I've been searching for a long time off and on waiting to find replacement A/C clutch's so members that have to replace just the clutch; meaning the bearings are good and the compressor otherwise in good repair; but the clutch is bad and or will not engage due to a bad clutch disk set or magnetic coil is bad. I have done a few of these kits a long time ago on some old Fords but have yet to find just these replacement kit's until now!
In your Service Manual in section 24 shows the how to remove and install the clutch kit's. So download the manual closest to your year http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=c...b5ba589d1986ba and
Problem is still theprices are through the roof at over $200 bucks. Now I did call the dealer and asked and they are around $250, but they are avalible.
For instance, a 1998 - early 2001 Durango is part number 04882008 clutch is $248 at the dealer if memory serves.
Some 2001 is 05016126AA.
Now 2002-2003 is 05072658AA without rear air and 05083077A with rear air.
Now this isn't the best news out there, but at least it looks like the aftermarket comunity is starting to make replacement parts including AC Delco and Four Seasons.
I found this part number W0133-1877775 at this site
http://www.thepartsbin.com/catalog/?...t=A/C%20clutch for a few bucks cheaper.
Found some information here, but I don't know if it is for our Durangos or not.

Read through all 7 pages, just one post on a noisy unit. Mine starting to make some loud grinding noise and I am wondering if I can just change the bearings or do I have to replace the entire compressor.
Can it be bypassed with a shorter belt?

AR34,
Dont' shoot me!
Instead shoot some wet lube (no dry graphite stuffs) on the clutch face and rear, nooks and crannies. Wipe overspray off belt. Let me know what happens then.
Start with WD40 for the trial. We can move to better longer lasting stuffs thereafter.
