2nd gear shouldn't be a band issue, but it might be. How long ago was the transmission serviced and adjusted? If the speedo needle is jumping around and it refuses to shift until you pump it or let out of the gas, replace the transmission solenoid.

I bought the truck a year ago, and I have not serviced it yet. I dont know how long before that it was serviced. The speedo is not jumping. The only way to get a 2nd gear shift is to release the pedal, otherwise it will stay in 1st. After shifting to 2nd it almost immediately goes to third. It does not slip gears everything else works perfectly, until the past couple of days when my check engine light came on. It is reading torque converter clutch solenoid, now it will stay in 3rd and gives very little power when starting after a stop.
