Default 01 d sounds like its at 4 grand while accelerating and only at 2 grand rpms.

So I have an 01 d 5.9 r/t and I noticed on my trip I just took that while I accelerate in any gear it sounds like I'm rapping out the motor everytime I hit the gas. The tach says its at just under 2 grand in o/d and it shifts fine through each gear. It just feels like I'm in neutral giving it gas and it takes a while to catch speed. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Sounds odd. If the trans or converter were slipping it would behave that way, but the tach should report the proper RPM. Could the exhaust have a leak and just be louder?

Well I don't think its an exhaust leak cause it isn't just a sound. It also effects how long it takes me to catch speed. From a dead stop if I hit the throttle just lightly it feels like I'm in neutral almost cause there's not much response to the wheels. It shifts at odd intervals instead of when it used to but the shifts are very smooth when it does shift. Any other thoughts? I have failed to mention I recently switched out my air intake from the wheelwell elbow that comes with the d and made a straight tube to try to pull cold air from the front of the hood through the grill. I don't know if that could cause this but I had it done for over a week and only noticed this about 700 miles after I changed it out.

possibly low on trans fluid, or something with the trans going bad, at worst trans going bad itself. possibly a bad guage cluster?

Checked the transmission fluid level and its full. Just got a tranny flush a month ago and heard nothing bad from my mechanic. I guess it could be the guage but I have doubts

i've heard of a trans going after a fluid change, especially if it has higher miles or the trans fluid hasnt been changed for a long time, and then its changed it goes. my wife and i have a civic that it happened to, change the fluid and the trans went after approx 20k miles but the tech never said there was any signs of the trans going. we then bought a replacement from LKQ, so if your trans happens to be bad check them out, they sell good used parts for a fair price, and give you a 6 month warranty. you could even extend the warranty to 12 months if you want.

Tranny flushing is bad. Changing the fluid alone doesn't normally lead
to problems though. They probably didn't adjust your bands either. Most tranny shops won't do it anymore. But they need to be adjusted every couple years.
