Default Looking for exhaust system

I have a 4.7 SXT durango 4wd. My exhaust is badly rusted out and is already cracking. I'm thinking of installing a new exhaust system but I don't want it too loud. Something close to stock but of good build and quality. A local shop said they could fabricate the pipes and use a no-name muffler for about $550. I think that's a little too high and maybe I could get a flowmaster, gibson, etc for just about the same price or better yet, cheaper.

Hopefully a system that I can just bolt right on in my garage. I have experience installing a catback exhaust system on my previous E36 M3 and current BMW E46 M3.

What would you guys suggest?

The best...IMHO...is Magnaflow, but each to their own. Anyway $550 is about twice what a basic build is worth in good pipe. Get another estimate, remember that you hold the ball in the court and they want your money.

Hydra, I'll check into that. Are you familiar with any systems that would produce a decent rumble when you floor the gas but is close to stock sounding when driving normally?

I had the magnaflow 3" cat back and while it sounded good at WOT, it was quiet a bit louder than stock at idle and driving casually.

I would recommend getting a fabricated 2.5" with a Dynomax VT muffler. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/WLK-17956/
It should cost nowhere near $550 though. $100 for the muffler, $2-250 labor and pipe.

Default cat back

i just replaced my exhaust from cat back. it came in two pcs- pipe and muffler and built in hangers on exhaust to fit into rubbers. the second pipe was tail pipe and fit right in place even the rubbers to hang it.
it cost total $174.00 parts at Bond auto parts and about 45 minutes to an hour laying on back to do it. good luck.
