Default 99 99 Durango Shifting and now Stalling problems.

Hello all, and thanks in advance to anyone who can help with these issues! I have a 99 Durango SLT with about 140k miles - 5.2L, 4SP Automatic, 44RE shift on the fly. The first problem started when I noticed she was shifting a bit hard, maybe 5 miles mph higher than normal to shift. Also started to notice a creaking noise underneath and a bit of a thud when coming to a complete stop. I changed the tranny fluid and filter and noticed no change at first and than hard shifting became more noticeable. I found the tranny mount was well worn and after replacing, all undercarriage noises went away but the shifting problem remains. Now if I drive at a moderate acceleration the shifting is almost normal and I can keep it so, however at a quick acceleration, shifting is way off. Under heavy throttle RPM's shoot way up before shifting and engine roars. A check engine light came on and produced a P0783 code which actually went away after a few days of easy accelerating. The tranny was rebuilt once at around 75k miles. The second problem, now 2 weeks later, is that she starts right up but will stall if I take my foot off the gas pedal immediately. Not a rough idle stall, an immediate stall. I can drive her just fine with one foot lightly on the gas at all times and one foot on the brake. I am not sure if these problems are related due to the 2 week lapse in time. No check engine light at this time. Again any help would be appreciated! (the speed sensor on the rear diff. was changed last year).

when you are accelerating hard the transmission is designed to hold the gear longer before shifting, if you really bury your foot in the gas the trans wont shift until you hit the rev limiter on the engine, this is NORMAL!!!!!!!!!

as for your stalling problem check and clean or replace your IAC motor (valve), its located on the back of the tb above the distributor, and its held on by two torx head bolts.

P0783 3-4 Shift Sol, No RPM Drop at Lockup

1. This could be a transmission output sensor or the 3-4 shift solenoid. I would first start with the output sensor because it's only like $20 bucks. Also did you adjust the bands while you had the pan off?

2. IAC or a bad battery.

I replaced the TPS and found a loose ground and now the stalling problem is gone. shrpshtr325, I mean it shifts badly if I dont gradually accelerate, not floor it. Anything over a light acceleration and it is way off. hydrashocker, I did not adjust the bands. I was not sure if that was something I felt I was able to do but after reading the manuel it looks like I can give it a shot. I will start with the output sensor. I am also wondering if the bad tranny mount may have thrown off the throttle cable setting a bit. Does this sound like a possability?

ahh i see, i misunderstood your origional post then, my bad

the throttle cable itself shouldnt be off bc of a bad tranny mount, but the tv cable may be, there is a pdf that explains how to adjust it in the FAQ thread, you can do this adjustment yourself so its always worth the time to check it.

You could try to do a TV cable adjustment as it could be off.
