Default 01 Durango Towing Capability?

I'm planning to buy a Cargo Trailer soon. I'd like to be able to tow it behind my Durango. I can check the vehicle weight ratings, but I'm more concerned about the actual ability to handle the trailer size.

Any thoughts on trailer size behind an 01 Durango? I'm planning on a 6X10, or 6X12 Enclosed Cargo Trailer.

The D will be able to handle the trailer, what engine do you have and final ratio (3.55 or 3.92)? That will be able to tell the weight you can load the trailer to.

Not sure on the ratio, I'll have to check. Engine 4.7L I think. That sound right? V8 for certain.
Cars been so good I don't even know what size engine is in it.

Look in the glove box, there should be a sticker that tells you your gearing ratio.

In here there is a towing section toward the bottom: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...wers-faqs.html

(f) 3.55 axle ratio
(g) 3.92 axle ratio

2003 ratings were reduced from 2002 ratings partially based on Government regs. If the above works for your needs, the 2002 will meet or exceed those figures.

I have a 2002 with 4.7 V8 and 3.55 rear end.

I tow our 19' Reinell boat (approx 25' long on trailer) and 4200 lbs loaded with fuel and toys.

I tow up 6% mountain grades with no issues.

Tongue weight is approx 400lbs and the rear end barely drops.
