Default New to the D and long trip ahead

Well my wife and I picked up a 2000 Durango and in a month we will be moving from CA to AL. The D has a 5.9 with the 3.55 gears and a tow package. We will be towing a small 5X8 trailer behind. Anything besides the basic maintenance i should be look at?

i would go through and change all the fluids. oil change, diff fluids, tcase fluids, change the tranny fluid but DO NOT GET A TRANNY FLUSH... then i would replace the cap, rotor, wires, and plugs. make sure the battery is good.

if you have kept up on all the maintance the only thing i would do is check the battery, and plugs/wires/capand rotor, if not then srch has a pretty good list to follow

Service the trans and the diffs per search instructions here. The other stuff above is good for any general tuneup, especially if you are unsure of the history.
