Coolant Leak? Please Help!
Hey everyone this is my first time posting anything so hopefully someone can help. I own a 2001 Durango R/T. I have be overheating and there had been a bad coolant leak. This weekend I changed out the upper radiator hose, put a new thermastat in and put a new radiator cap on. Thats were i thought the leak was coming from until today the leak came back worse than before. Its not overheating anymore but the coolant is leaking, its ony a few drop when its running but when i turn off the durango is when it starts to flow. I think its coming from the lower part of the motor but i cant tell forsure. I am going to get a new lower radiator hose tomarrow but i dont know if that will fix the problem cause it seems like more than that. Can someone please help me out. THANKS

Hi I just had the same problem with my durango with the overheating. I first had to have the fan clutch replaced....then started leaking from the rear and it ended up being the auxilary heater core. Just a few things you might want to check out on yours. Good luck! Sandi
IF the lower hose is not it, look at the lower portion of the water pump. There is a weap hole at the bottom of the body. usually behind something so you can't really see it without dismantling things and it may only leak when the motor is warm and radiator is pressurized with enough fluid. This hole is a indicator for us so when the shaft seal fails the problem can be fixed before the shaft snaps and the pully (and fan?) go pinballing around in the engine compartment. Also, if it is really bad, the pump will probalby be making noise(s) ching ching ching or shhhhhhdhhhhhhdhhhhhh... with the revoving of the motor. Hard to notice sometimes with out actually looking or experiance.
If your sure that is not he problem, then check also the 'bypass hose'. This is a smaller hose/tube arrangment that comes off-of or out-of the top or side of the water pump and directly into the water jacket of the motor. These suckers are a hard to get to, so if you don't do that stuff get someone who does. And if you go to the trouble of doing the waterpump do that bypass hose as well, you'll be 3/4 there anyway.
