I think I got pretty lucky bought it 3yrs ago 87,000 mile $4000. The trans didn't want to shift when it was cold and it burned alot of oil. Changed the trans filter and plenum gasket. Did a kegger mod, k n filter, ram air, and open the exhaust a little. Runs pretty good.
Lately I've been cutting out rust and welding new sheet metal in. Looks pretty good for someone who's never done body work before.
The only thing I don't like about the D. It has the not so common black paint. So it costs a little more to get.

 

Yea the thing gets up and boogies. I have a Volvo 280 drive (I think that's it) and it has 400 hours on it. Smooth as a womans butt. Hard to hear running tho which I do like.

 

Awesome...Volvo penta drives are a bitch to work on but when you have a good one and maintain it they're perfect. I have a merc 260 in my 79 Glastron 18, Alpha drive tho...way too big for my boat but whatevaa.... I like goin fast

I find the streets are a better place because of MOPAR....I've driven a new Durango,felt like a tall car,I like the first gen's....I'de rather ask advice and scrape my knuckles fixin mine up than get a new/newer one. Keepin it black or you gonna paint it?

Laz45 I know what you mean we rented one a couple years ago to see if we liked them. I thought the same thing. I want something that rides like a truck and the first gen still does. I think the rumble of the exhaust is getting to my wife. Now shes talking about getting mud tires. When I first started talking doing some mods to it. She said get your own cause I don't want it on my Durango. Its funny how a little more power under the foot and the noise it makes can change people.

 

I know the feeling... when i bought the D in January everytime i talked about a mod i got " your not doing that to OUR durango!" Now, 10 months and a few decent mods later i get " Whatever, its your toy"

 

Yeah,mine isn't much differnt there but she figures if I'm working on the D my $$ isn't going into my van or bike...but she want's to know everything I'm doing to it...Only other one she was like this with was my Ramcharger and that was when I took the top off..wish I didn't ruin that thing.
