So, I said in another post that, after taking this '98 I bought recently down the road for a short drive, I discovered that it's got loads of excess power. This isn't something new to me, every Dodge I've owned has been a bit of a hot-rod. I've thought about this several times, knowing it had a 318, but I kept thinking..."This thing doesn't run like a 318". So a few minutes ago I got the title out of the glove box and checked the numbers, and it turns out my suspicions were right. It's the 360. I'm not sure why the previous owners thought otherwise.

I love my 360, haven't gotten the chance to drive a D with a 318. Rode in one, didn't drive it though

I love the 360 in my Durango. My dad has a Ram 1500 with the 318 and there is no comparison in power and throttle response. One thing is for sure though the 318 is tough as nails.

That'll give you quite a bit of info about your vehicle.

The 8th digit of the vin is the engine code, by the way. Z is 5.9 (360) in 1998.

the 4.7 is very easy to identify against the 5.2/5.9, just open the hood and look on top of the engine at the air intake pipe, if its square you have a 4.7 in your year if its round you have the 5.9

if you dont have the stock intake the 5.9 tb comes straight up while the 4.7 has it coming out at an angle towards the back firewall.

318 is the cubic inches of the engine for a 5.2 so for your 4.7 it would be more like a 286
