4WD Selector switch / Headlight switch backlight bulb replacement tip
As I was trying to troubleshoot my Service 4WD issues on my 01 Durango I decided to also address the non functioning backlights on the headlight switch and 4WD selector switch.
The headlight switch has an easily replaceable bulb...dealer part #5015732AA BULB-INDICATOR LAMP (around $4.00)
The 4WD selector switch does not have that option. The backlight bulbs (2) are soldered to a board inside the switch. Instead of spending $60 on a new switch I decided to repair on my own.
If you are handy with a soldering iron they can be replaced easily enough. Pop open the switch and identify the bulbs. One had a rubber cover/blue located in the center and the other was only the bulb, located at the top center. Both were burned out.
I picked up replacement bulbs at the local Radio Shack. The bulbs I used were part number 272-1154 12V - 50mA Bi-Pin Lamp. (about $2.00 each).
No picture, but its easy to figure out once you open the switch.
I hope someone finds this helpful.
