Default Need Expert opinions on flowmaster!

So I need a new muffler...the stock one rattles like crazy and has holes/dents in it.
So I know I dont want it crazy loud, so no flowmaster 40's.
But I talked to my mec and he said I should look into a hushpower.
Has some more sound, but nothing to crazy loud.
I need to know:
what is the stock exhaust piping size?
How easy would it be to gut the cat?
How many cats are on our rigs?
Thanks to everyone in advance!

I ask about the cat cause I get the feeling it is clogged...
Asked my mec and he did the hammer test and said it just doesn't sound right...well if I can just bore it through the center then might as well try I guess. We don't do smog so I dont have to worry about that.
How loud is the FM 50? Ill have to look for some vids on youtube now for them.

Ok so just heard a 5.9 D with the 50 series and I am hooked! Not to crazy loud at idle but when you open it up it lets out the tone I was looking for!
Now should I get a muffler with the in/out in the center? Or one of the offset?

Avoid the FM Series 50 Delta.
Chose the FM Series 50 SUV.

If you gut the cat, that will change the sound of things and likely throw O2 codes constantly. If it is bad, replace don't trash it. Just do it right once and you will never have to worry about it again.

I haven't heard the FM 50 SUV, but if you say it's like the Magnaflow 22" then I'm sure it would sound good. The one thing I personally have against Flowmaster is the fact they use a chambered muffler verses a straight piped muffler with straight flow design (no chambers). Heat escapes the motor faster and with less back pressure.

Do not gut the CAT unless you know what you are doing and know how to fool the system, not to mention if you live in a emissions area you will fail the test.

I still want some back pressure, like the low end trq.
I was torn between a glasspack and a flowmaster. But once I heard a glass pack...it was simple after that. Just dosn't sound as good, plus it is to loud for my DD.

I just put a 40 Flow on my 5.2 D. It sounds amazing! Its quieter inside the truck than with stock muff. Its not loud at all outside. I was hoping for louder when I got it but it sounds MEAN!

I have a Magnaflow cat-back system with a 22" muffler and I love it. It's not loud on the inside when cruising, and it has a nice grunty sound to it on the outside. It's not extremely loud but its not quiet either. If the flowmaster 50 sounds like it does I think you'll be satisfied
