TurboStixx you have a 5.2 which you check in neutral. I was just pointing out the factory manual says to check the 4.7 engine 45RFE trans in park. BUT!!! The dipstick on my 03 4.7 says to check in NEUTRAL????? O.K so I pull the stick on my 05 1500 5.7 and it says to check in NEUTRAL also??? Hmmm. The procedure I quoted was from my 04 1500 service manual (traded in on Daytona) So I don't know which is right, the manual or the dipstick?

 

ut oh, now we have a problem lol, hyrdas post says on the 4.7 tranny The torque converter fills in both the P (PARK)
and N (NEUTRAL) positions. soooooo...go by dipstick I guess. I mean, hell books and can be for a wide varierty of trucks while the dipstick is specific? Hell I don't know, go with neutral, it always works right?!

 

Checked Mitchells at work today and it says the same as the manual..to be accurate check in PARK for the 45RFE/545RFE. I would really like to know which is correct????? I work in a shop (yes I'm certified) and have always gone by the book and checked these in park. Maybe the dipstick supplier didn't get the memo???? Sorry to kick a dead horse but I don't want to cause anybody to have a trans problem. If it wasn't so cold out (and dark) I would check mine in both and see if there is really a difference in readings...I guess I have something to do tomorrow

 

i posted the quote above out of my owners manual, i have the 4.7, i always have, and will continue to check mine in nuetral

 

Like I said before, it can't hurt to check it in both positions and whichever one is lower is the correct reading. If it reads the same in park and neutral and is high when off then it probably pumps in both.

 

I have the same problem and im about to do the same thing.

 

Never go to this mechanic again.
