Default Clacking and binding in 2wd from front end?

Hey guys, been a while. I've noticed a loud clicking in 2wd from the front end, like a cv joint going out. I put the D in 4wd and it got REALLY BAD whether I was turning or going straight (but worse turning).

So, back into 2wd the sound was even worse. I turned, backed up, went forward, going into 4wd then back to 2wd, etc- just seeing if it was some kind of locker binding issue. Sometimes the noise was better in 2wd, but always worse in 4wd.

Kinda seems like some kind of 4wd locking problem, not wanting to fully release when in 2wd. But even if it doesn't release, why the clicking and binding? Is this a transfer case problem.

Thanks for any help guys.

probably wouldn't hurt to check the u-joints either, but it's most likely the cv joint(s)

Ok. Will do, be back in here in an hour or two for the results. Got a friend in town with a lift in his shop and we're gonna do some rat killin' on this D.

He doesn't have heat, this is gonna suck.

If you need to replace the CV half shaft them ensure you break the front large axle nut free before you lift it. Those things don't like to come loose, but they do and they are regular thread, lefty loosey, righty tighty. You are going to need a very long pipe to insert over the 3/4" ratchet or larger. I used a 8' cheater bar on mine!
