Default Thanks all

Spark plugs: I used a little info box at Wal-Mart to check which ones I need for my vehicle. Gonna go and see what I did use and come back.

Air Filter: Brand new and clean

"I'd also just for giggles replace the TPS, when i replaced mine my trucks became so much smoother"...TPS? Throttle Position Sensor? (I am making it up as I go along, trying to pretend I know something)

Vacuum leak...hmmm...how do you check for that?

Reading the forums and online to get info.

Appreciate the forums.

Take those plugs out of your truck, and go to auto zone or other and get the regular cheap Champion Copper plugs, nothing else. Gap at .040 and install. Get a new distributor cap and rotor with brass contacts while your there. Next go to a dealer and get a set OEM wires, or Mopar Performance wires and install.

Next physically remove the Throttle body and clean the entire thing out with an old tooth brush and 2 cans of Carb cleaner or Throttle Body cleaner. Get a new gasket from them and replace. Now reset the PCM. Remember after rest when you first start the truck do NOT hit the gas. Let it run for like 12 seconds and if it dies let it die. Now restart and drive normal.

If this doesn't fix the issue replace the pre-CAT sensor with a NTK or Desno O2 sensor, I would not use anything else.

You can always try a TPS sensor.

Vacuum leak, look at the front of the throttle body, there is a hose that comes out about 3" and it goes into a hard plastic black hose. Anyway this 3" hose likes to crack. Then just follow them around and look for cracks.

Default Okay...

I will continue to investigate this weekend.

To recap: This rough idle and rough driving started after I somewhat forced my D to start. When that happened the vehicle did get a good shake and I am certain that if anything was not secured tightly it came off.
Visually inspected all and all is connected.
Going to address the Dist. Cap, Rotor and wires this weekend.
Pre-Cat... want to check the connection to see if anything came off. Could the sensor just be dirty after that big cloud of smoke came from the car?

And as a replacement it has two listed at Autozone:
Part Number: 234-4078
Warranty: 3 MO
Application: Down-stream sensor (located after catalytic converter)

and

Part Number: 234-4077
Warranty: 3 MO
Application: Up-stream sensor (located before catalytic converter)

--------------------------------------------------

Maybe a silly question, BUT...

If a plug does not get a spark, would it missfire?
Would it just run/idle crappy?

Well if a plug is not getting the electricity from distributor it won't fire. Even a partial fire will cause it to run rough. If your plugs were that old, chances are the plug wires are that old too causing lots of resistance so you aren't getting proper spark.

Andreas going bact to your first post, I figured it out I pronounced your handle wrong. Now that I have pronounced it right which is like the San Andreas Fault line it is not a girls name, again I apologize for the mix up. Hows your rear diff doing?

Default Name

No need to appologize at all. I get that a lot. I am here in the south-west corner of arizona and do work with the public which is mainly hispanic. Andrea is a girls name in mexico and Andreas almost unheard of. So usually people will have my name as i will come to their home and once they see my 6'1, 270lb standing there, they are taken back a little.
No worries at al.

------------------------

Differential...clips which hold those wavers together left and right inside the differential had come off and pulverized by the big gear. All bearings were replaced, the whole thing cleaned and bam, runs very nice, very smooth, no issues anymore. When I let go of the gas you do hear a little whiny sound which the mechanic contributes to a couple of small scratched left from the debries. But it works fantastic.
Since I adjusted the link for the 4x4 issue I had, all it takes is a one finger swipe and it goes right into 4x4. took it to a locat dune here and I have not met a match for this vehicle yet...soft deep sand, thick mud-puddles...goes through like butter.
This is the first vehicle for which I really care. I always liked the looks stock and now even more since seeing all of you guys' vehicles. I want all mechanics to work though before I even consider things such as lifts, wheels, nerf-bars, cow-pushers etc. (I am not rich).

---------------------------------
To the current issue...the one thing I seem to be hung up on the the moment this current problem arose. the day when i had to really push the gas pedal and make this car come on.

I have noticed in in the couple of past days my exhaust to smell pretty bad, weird. Not like gasoline or something, just like a noticable odor. No clue if it has anything to do with anything but it's just something I noticed.

Going to climb under my vehicle and check for all connections etc. I also hear a slight whining sound coming from under the vehicle when it sits and runs. But I thought that might just be the fuel pump.

---------------------------------
I might just be hyper-sensitive and think everything I hear HAS to be something broken. Like someone telling you they noticed a red dot in your face and that it could be skin-cancer. Drives you nuts.

Appreciate the help from ya'll and I hope that I contribute a bit to your day's entertainment.

How is your plenum? Look down the Throttle body to see if any oil is sitting in the intake. If there is that means your plenum gasket is blown. It could account for some of the rough idle and weird smelling exhaust.

Could be that your cat is going or its already bad. That usually causes a foul rotten egg smell.
