Default Can you change your oil filter without draining your oil?

I have a 1999 dodge durango 5.2L and i bought the wrong oil filter (stupid book at walmart) so i had to use my old one because i had already drained the old oil.

So can I just go buy a new filter and swap it out? I realize i will problably loose a little bit of oil by swapping the filter because oil comes out anyways when changing it but, thats better than buying another 5 quarts.
Thanks,

Yea, you can swap it. Should be just about as messy as normal. Remember to replace the oil lost during the swap AND the oil in the filter.

+1 indy

it can be done, id suggest doing it after the truck has sat for a while to minimize the mess (maybe in the morning) and make sure you top the oil off after you do it.
