Loud Pop When engaging/disengagind 4X4
I have a 1999 dodge durango 5.2 4x4 and whenever i engage or disengage the 4x4 there is a loud pop this problem started last winter so at least a year ago.
Also the 4x4 does not work in reverse, when you hit the gas in reverse it just wont move. 2x4 reverse works just fine.
Any ideas? I know it has been needing a new front drivers side cv joint boot for a long time, and ball joints. But i dont see how that could cause a loud popping noise, or the no reverse in 4x4 issue.
Thanks,
Mechaniczman

if the cv boot is bad and the cv joint went bad due to that it could make noise when in 4wd, but as you're saying that reverse doesn't work in 4wd it might be something in the transfer case.
Yah i made this post off of what i can remember from last year, and getting ready for winter im trying to get it right. Tomorrow i will try out the 4x4 and see how everything works, and let yall know.
I did change the fluid in the transfer case over the summer, but havent used the 4x4 since...the fluid was a little bit low when i drained it but its the same level as when i changed it so it does not leak.
