Default Evap p0442 p0455

Hoping someone can help me. I brought my 2000 durango to the dealer to fix a p0442 evap code. I had replaced the gas cap but the code returned. They said that after a smoke test that the issue was the fuel tank neck. They replaced the neck with a used neck without realizing the neck was from a 1998 not a 2000. They only realized this after finding the gas cap would not fit. So they ordered a gas cap to fit the 1998 neck. Well, check engine light has retuned a day later but now the evap code is p0455. So i'm wondering if the older neck somehow does not fit properly which is causing a more severe leak. Does anyone know if what i'm thinking is correct?

I just can't seem to find a good service department. Uhgg.

Thanks for any advise or information.

i hate to be the bearer of bad news but your dealership is totally off base. they never should have touched the filler neck OR cap for that matter. theres a charcoal canister under your drivers side with three hoses coming off of it. the hoses have likely rotted and need to be replaced.

P.S. check out the DIY thread EVAP LEAKS. youll find all the info youll need to fix your D.

That's where i thought the issue would have been too but when they said they did a smoke test it was hard to argue. Thanks for the reply.

Does anyone know if the 98 fuel neck properly fits 2000 fuel tank? The caps don't fit?

I wouldnt have an answer for that but i second the idea of checking your hoses under the truck. They may have just slight slits in them that the smoke test might have missed. Move the houses around, take them off for inspection, or just squeeze them to see if the slit or hole becomes visible. I had the same codes and i replaced the three hoses and the problem never came back. You can also check the evap hoses in your engine compartment. Im still battling it out with a p0440...thinkin its my leak detection pump

I have had to deal with these codes a few times. I don't actually recall which code it was exactly, but I'm sure it's been one of the codes being mentioned in this thread. The problem has always been due to a split hose end on the test port tee fitting. The hose end pushed up on the barb fitting of the tee simply splits. The original hose had a generous amount of slack in it, so I just cut off the split end and pushed those hose back onto the tee fitting. Problem solved. I did that two or three times, and the last time I replaced the full length of hose. I've had to do this maybe 3 or 4 times since I bought the D in 2001.

Not the best picture, but near the center there is a tee fitting with a green cap. This is where I've had the problem. Every time. Always splits on the side of the tee facing the front of the vehicle.
