Hydra is usually right (except when his visits jack for too long ) so hes probably right. I only said bind because every other transfer case I have heard of exploding was because of bind from not completely disengaging 4wd part time. Also, I'm not completely positive, but I'm pretty sure it can happen to the electronically shifting cases too.
Anyway, glad to see you got it fixed, and I hope this never happens to anyone again.

just to clear things up though, should you still reverse and swerve with a nv244 case as you would with a nv242

I look forward to the pictures, however I still think it was a bearing or a pump personally. Time will tell!
