Default Transmission question.....

I have a 99 durango and I need to replace the transmission in it. I found a 95 dakota that I can get really cheap. How do I figure out if the transmission will fit into my durango? ....Or how do I tell what transmission I have? They are both automatics and both have 4x4 on the floor and the same engines.

you have a 44re in your durango then. If the dakota has the same transmission then it should fit, but I'm not positive since a 95 was the 1st generation dakota

I would be VERY wiry of that actually bolting directly in being that far apart.

I would find one that is a 1998-1999 Durango, or a 1997-1999 Dakota.

I'm feeling the same way. Like I said before it should work (on paper at least) but I wouldn't try it. If you really want to see get every # you can off the dakotas tranny and see if they match up to your durango. also pay attention to the transfer case because chances are they will be different and possibly not compatible. check where all the bolt holes are and do alot of measuring. Like hydra said, I'd stick to a 98 or 99 durango or a 97-99 dakota.
