laz- its something we do on all of our cars, im the only one who has a digital searchable copy of it tho, it does make any calculations based on these factors very easy, like for instance i can simply open the spreadsheet (google doc spreadsheet of course so i can edit it from my phone while i sit at the gas pump) tells me that my brakes were last changed a 50k miles, they still have plenty of life left on them based on visual inspection, but since i have 100k miles on the truck now i know that i have 50k out of this set of brakes, i can also very simply keep track of treadwear and every other piece of work ever done to the truck, nice little record to have.

also laz, all Durangos are fuel injected and need the same maintenance.

old school, you need to put a brick under your gas pedal

d@mn, and I thought I was being pedantic keeping a little brown butcher book in my glovebox will all of my maintenance.

I think I might need the brick too, I used get around 250 miles (mostly city) on a tank. I think I've managed 330 once, but that was before I added the ram/cold air intake. Right now my overhead says I'm getting around 15mpg on average, but I haven't ran a full tank (too broke to afford it) since I've installed it to confirm that

Since I've added the intake my overhead claims I'm doing around 17mpg on the highway, but that seems a bit high. Maybe I'll have some money after the holidays and will be able to fill my tank for the first time since september. lol

I don't know many people that keep consistant records, more like repairs and maint,if even that..it is a nice record. Tracking the way you do could only be a good thing.I like the google doc, good idea. Maybe TMI for some people but you're taking nearly all of the guess work out.I still think it's neat you have that kind of info that far back...Heck, I'm still fixing past mistakes for the P/O but mine's still kinda new to me,and a mess when I got it,it's like I'm doing a reset, like clearing the slate...but I'm gettin there.
You guys think maybe Jason's 400 # might be a fluke and numbers he's recording now are normal? No one's asked how he's calculating it,if he's going strictly off the overhead he might not actually have a mileage issue right? From what I see mid/high 200's to mid 300's are average....

laz, the sheet im using in google docs is shared out as a template if you use google docs you could very simply take and start using it, ill get you a link if you want.

and yes it takes ALL of the guess work out of it, it even plots gas mileage and price per mile in a big *** graph on the next sheet of the same doc. really nice to see when the mpgs drop and gives you a chance to look at WHY,

my mpgs are on their way down right now bc its got about 30k on these plugs, they will be change in may when i graduate and will be driving it full time again. (along with a couple of other tune up type thigns)

Yeah, cool. I would like the link,Thanks. When I'm done with the repairs and gone through all the mistakes that were made I want to keep up on it. I got lucky getting this one,if the P/O had a better mechanic it wouldn't be mine...Anyway,once finished I have a really nice truck and I want to keep it. I have a lot of work to do but it's comming along nice,it loves being worked on. I'm taking the advice on the oil testing also,I have a sample kit from Blackstone, the next oil change is my marking point...
I do need a better way of keeping track, dropping reciepts in a folder and trying to remember everything isn't really cutting it...

I would go by the overhead if i had one but mine doesnt. when running the numbers i fill up then right what the trip says on the slip. divide the number from the trip by the amont put in off the slip. Since we got it almost 2 years ago it has been 375+ per tank and now its down to about 230. I know some of it is they way my wife drives she needs the brick under the go pedal but now it takes a 1/4 tank for a 35-40 mile round trip. plugs look like they should for only being in for the short time they have on them.

Ahhh, ok so your doing the math instead of the overhead,so you're as acurate as can be.Then it's a real drop in mileage...(I wasn't taking a shot at you, just kinda confirming how you get the mileage)
Does it feel like it's running different? Running rough or laboring? Nothing else done beside the plugs and adding a seafoam to the fuel?

I don't know about you guys, but my gas gauge dives after it hits around 1/3 of a tank

New air filter a few months ago and new plugs then seafoam. it feels like it is running better smoother idle and a bit more pick up when you hit the gas. Nothing bad that would lead to a problem.
