the 4.7 isn't by any means a bad motor at all. It makes nearly as much power as the 5.2. That's just called progress.

Default 2003 dodge durango 4.7

i have an 03 model with the gutless 4.7, never had a problem with the engine or trans, but I love the truck itself. its smooth comfortable ride, wish I had the 5.9 but im happy with what I have.

I had a 98 with the 5.2L. I found that it was a little under powered. Even with the little things. My 99 now with the 5.9L has plenty of power and then some.
I run the 89 octane in it. After 2 weeks with the 87 octane and 3 weeks with the 89 octane. I get 40 to 50 miles more with the 89 octane.
Want the power go with 5.9L, and run the 89 octane in it. The fuel mileage is there. for you. I use my rig for everything, every day use, hwy, hauling, off road.
As with the issues idk, mine runs like a raped ape, no issues here.
Go with the 99, 5.9L , and use the 89 octane
