Default Rough idle

I have a 01 4x2 durango with the 5.9 and 130k miles. It's been idleing badly to the point where it feels like it wants to die for a while now. It seems to run fine when you are driving and is getting its normal 14 mpg. It's not very noticeable when I park but you can feel it in drive and gets worse when you turn on the heater. I've changed the plugs and wires, cap and rotor, pcv valve, battery and the terminals. Plus the check engine light isn't on and my code reader didn't pick up anything. I'm not sure where to go from here and any sort of advice would be great. Thanks

Perhaps try cleaning the throttle body and the IAC. Has it stalled on you at all? Also make sure that all battery comnections are tight and corrosion free.

Have your battery tested under load. New doesn't necessarily mean good.

+1 Check the battery connections for tight and clean

Low idle stumble and all else is good is nearly always battery related

Use the search functions

I actually changed the battery and battery connectors trying to fix this problem. The connectors had gotten quite corroded and there were a few mornings where the Durango didn't start so I changed bolth assuming it would fix everything. Now I'm thinking the corrosion may have crept back into the battery cable. Maybe I'll change those and if thats not it attack the throttle body.

Also make sure you check the grounds for tightness and corrosion and checking the connection to the alternator also wouldnt hurt at this time.

Finally got around to changing the battery cables today and there was no change with the idle. Checked voltage while I was at it with the car running and everything on Including the headlights, heater and radio. At the battery, fuze box and alternator it read almost 14v. Guess I'll tear into the throttle body and clean the iac.

+1

Remove the Throttle Body and clean it including the IAC and IAC port, replace the gasket and reset the PCM,.

Thanks hydro shocker for the +1. I will not have time untell the weekend to work on the throttle body and I will give an update when I'm done.

My question is what is the IAC. I found the other thread where you guys explain where it is and how to clean it. But what does it do and what does IAC stand for. I guess when I'm working on my car I'm always trying to learn and it helps if I know why I'm doing something.
