AWD to 4 Hi issue.
A couple of years ago, I had the dealer put in a new transfer selector as the OEM failed and it switched to 4 Hi and stayed there. Didn't know much better at the time and they charged me a fortune for it.
Anyway, a couple of weeks ago, it started to do it again and of course it's never when I'm around, only when my wife is in it. Well today it did to me. I backed out of a parking space and when I put it in drive I felt something happen, and asa I pulled away it felt like the parking brake was still on. As I came to a turn I felt the 4Hi scrubbing on the tires as I turned. I stopped cycled the switch a couple of times and cycled the gear selector into and out of neutral and drive. No changes. So I drove home approx', 15 miles in 4 Hi. About 5 miles from home I felt the tranny buck slightly and when I got home I selected AWD and tried to turn into my drive and everything felt fine again.
I immediately jacked it up and checked the transfer case fluid level, ok, and pulled the connector off the selector and it's clean and dry. So before I tell my wife she's good to go again and how to handle the problem if it does it again, I'd like you guys to offer any suggestions as to probable cause or fixes.
Thanks.
