Default 2000 Durango with 4.7, muffler.

Hey guys.
I need your thoughts on this.
My Rango after a couple of years of baby-seating the stock muffler that was starting to go, I have to replace it. The rest of the exhaust seems to be good. The thing is that while it was going, (as it still is...) it started to sound quite mellow and not loud just throaty. I like it like that.
So I was thinking on getting an aftermarket muffler to replace it with, keeping the rest of the piping the same but something with a bit of rumble but not loud to annoy the world or me in it, on long trips.
I know Flowmaster has a few like the 40 and 50 series. One being louder than the other. Of course sound clips on the PC and youtube could be decieving to say the least.
Any thoughts?
Thank you,
Anthony V.

my magnaflow system has a nice grumbly tone to it, but isn't very loud. Mine's a 5.2 though so you may want to look up magnaflows on a 4.7 on youtube

You can look at the 40's and 44's for the durango i got one on mine but cant remember exactly which one unfortunately. It has a grumble sound and theres times when its loud but i got used to it pretty quickly.

Ok thank you for the replies. I went to youtube and found a whole bunch of clips. of course depending where the mike was positioned etc it could still be deceiving but it seems as the flowmaster 40s are a bit loud and there is a 50 SUV that supposedly makes "moderate" sound...
the thing is that they are all too short, nothing the length of the stock muffler so a pipe will have to be added to extend the new muffler.
thank you again.

Yeah i got the muffler and added some nice racing industries tailpipes. Had a bunch of piping added and the retainers welded on. Overall im happy with the sound!

I put a FM series 70 on my D but I also had them replace the pipes from the converter back.
That's because some idiot had placed a cherrybomb muffler on it and had removed all of the original exhaust system!

It's a 3 chamber muffler and it has a nice throaty sound but isn't very loud at all.
In the end it cost me just over $300 to have it installed.
I need to get the tailpipe replaced now since it rusted through where they welded on the hangers.
I think next time I'll make sure they use clamps instead for the hangers at least.

Hello all and again thanks for the replies and thoughts.
Yes welding things on could be a double edge sword if not painted/maintained etc. Usually the rust eats things up and mostly when there is high heat involved...
Sometimes by the time you get pieces and put things together, one might be better off getting a complete exhaust and be done with...
BUT, that's money and mostly when the rest of the piping is good..
Thanks again,
TV

I've liked my thrush glass pack. I used the one that has a 2.5" in and 2.5" out. It's is a bit aggressive but its a nice sounding aggressive.

I have a Magnaflow muffler on my 4.7, personally I would have liked a little more noise but it has a great rumble tone. When you start the vehicle you can definitely tell it isn't a stock exhaust, and around 2k rpm you get a nice deep, but moderate rumble. However, if I floor the pedal it sounds like a monster truck haha, but I already only get 9mpg so I very rarely do that!
