Post oil light on!

hey all my girlfriend has a 2003 dodge durango, Yesterday she said the oil light came on, this light never ever came on. I saw it was 100 miles past due for an oil change but thats nothing, so i changed the oil/ filter because it was time anyway. Road tested the vehicle for about 10 miles and no light! GF gets in the truck this morning for work and starts it and the light came on before she was out of the driveway. could this be a faulty oil sensor? anyone ever have this happen? Whats going on?

there should be an oil pressure gauge in the dashboard, is it dropping when the light comes on? if so and the engine still runs fine i would say a bad sensor is the likely culprit, mine went out on my this past summer and was causing a high reading(would read 30 psi with the engine off)

I didnt notice the oil pressure gauge dropping at all. any info on where this sensor is located on the truck? Is this the part I would possibly need? see link.

some 2003s have a guage setup so that if you have a pressure reading it shows the gauge in the middle (stupid i know), if you have an oil pressure light only i would say that is probably the right sensor, however tell your gf that next time the light comes on to look at the oil pressure gauge, or take a picture of it (while the light is on preferably) and post the picture here.

the oil pressure sensor is located just above the oil filter, you can get to it with the filter still on, but if you take the filter off it will be very easy to see, you need a deep well socket to get it off bc of the plug on it, sorry idr what size mine was.

glad i could help, the troubleshooting process on this one was the real PITA, removal/install is very easy, just need to have the right tool(s)

definitely let us know what happens, also tell her to listen for the engine to get noisy, if it gets noisy SHUT THE ENGINE OFF IMMEDIATELY (when i say noisy i mean if it sounds dry, like a loud ticking, clicking sound similar to how it sound when starting up after an oil change) as long as it doesnt make that noise it is still getting oil through the engine.
