Idle Air Controller physically sticking (i.e. not a grim issue)?
I have been chasing down a hard to cold start problem for several months, which is a seperate story in-and-of itself.
I have a 1999 Dodge Durange 2WD 5.2L engine. I was removing my IAC (Idle Air Controller) and noticed that it took more force than normal to remove (the screws were already out).
Looking at the top, i.e. the plunger portion that allows air in, I noticed a small indentation ring. It seemed to be deeper than the old part replaced a few months ago.
Offhand, it appears that the plunger was being pressed by the throttle controller hard enought into the opening that was getting stuck from time-to-time until the engine heated up.
Has anyone else run into an issue like this?
Here is another reason I ask. About a month ago I replaced the crankshaft position sensor. The replacement was a BWD from Checker (or whatever they are called now). The car did not start after replacement and when I pulled the part back out it had 'hit' the flywheel and was chewed up a bit on the bottom. So, I then got the part from the Dodge dealer and it worked fine.
Additionally, I noticed in the instructions that came with the IAC that showed two types: one with a gasket and another using an o-ring. I don't know what the car had originally as it was replaced by a mechanic but both my replacement and the one the mechanic put in previously used an o-ring.
Just looking for other folks experience in this area of IAC's
As a side note. Dirt and grim are not a factor as the intake manifold (i.e plemun gasket issue), plugs, wires, distribute cap, roter, coil, camshaft position sensor were replaced and *******ly every other Engine sensor plus the PCM within the last six months.

Just picked up a new Idle Air Controller from the dealer last night.
When I compared the parts, it was interesting that both were almost a spliting image of each other. However, the auto shop part had the painted part number or serial number along the body ground off and covered with a big label. Another number at the end in the plastic portion was also ground off.
Both were imprinted in the plastic Made in Mexico.
