Default 2001 9.25 u joint

I have found a 9.25 rear axle out of a 2001 Durango and I'm thinking if swapping it out in place of the 8 1/4 in my 92 dakota. My question is, what universal joint is used in the 2001 9.25?. I know that I will have to weld on spring perches and shock mounts I'm just questioning the u joints now. Thanks Chris

I'm very lost on what exactly you're asking... Especially with a Drivetrain question, it helps to know if we're talking about a 4WD or 2WD vehicle. Luckily for you the Durango 4WD and 2WD use the same u-joint to meet the rear end.

Here's the RockAuto part number for a precision U-Joint, do what you want with it:

PRECISION/MOOG Part # 254 ($13.50 ea)

I might be wrong but the 9.25 was only offers in the R/T Durango our a 4x4 durango with either the heavy duty or towing option. I was clear in asking if anyone knew what u joint was used. If there were to be more than one someone would have chimed in. The part number you have given me is what I was looking for so thank you for that. I might be wrong here, excuse me if I am but the attitude is a bit much. Thanks Chris

No attitude, just trying to make sense of what you're doing. The Chrysler 9.25 rear-end was used in 1998-2003 (the entire first generation of the Durango).

I think I've understood you after reading it thru about 20 times, you're replacing your 8.25 rear-end in your Dakota with your 9.25 rear-end, correct?

In order to do this yes it does have fatter u-joints and different mounting plates, try to get these off the donor Durango if you can! There are 2 different yokes that you have to take into consideration also, there is one that has 2 straps and 4 bolts that attach to the driveshaft, this will not work with the new axle.

If it has a larger hub and 6 bolts that attach to the driveshaft, you are lucky because it should bolt up with the exception of replacing with upgraded u-joints. As for the suspension aspect you will probably be able to use the leaf springs, but the shock mounts you will have to cut and re weld in the proper place.

Good luck, and sorry for my seeming to have an attitude, I'm really here to help!
